Exploring the history of the Bradford wool industry

The New Year has started well for Alke Schmidt, as she’s received Arts Council England approval for funding for her major project this year: Researching and developing new work for a solo exhibition at Bradford Industrial Museum (BIM). The work will explore the history of the Bradford wool industry through time and how it affected and connected people from around the world. The project will also involve making a new piece for nearby Salts Mill, Saltaire, inspired by the gorgeous Alpaca dress fabrics that made the Mill famous in Victorian times. The project will build on Alke’s work for the recent ‘Tangled Yarns’ exhibition.

The Exhibition at BIM will open on 3 December this year.
