TS Student Bursaries Announced
Rozanna Mai Walecki of the Royal College of Art is the Textile Society's 2015 postgraduate student bursary winner, worth £1000.
The judges thought Rozanna Mai Walecki's personal expression showed throughout her work and they sensed a real artist behind the thinking and exploration. Her vision for design incorporated a moody and sensitive translation into material, where a restricted palette allowed for exploration of rich surfaces and textural qualities without the distraction or clash of contrasting colours
Rahel Pfrommer of the Royal College of Art and Carol Sorhaindo of Leeds College of Art each received runner up prizes of £500.
Suzanna Kate James from Winchester School of Art has won the undergraduate bursary prize, also worth £1000. The Judges felt that Suzanna's application was particularly strong and well-constructed.
Her Knitwear project was carefully researched, which gave the project a solid contextual foundation and was underpinned with traditional techniques.
Her illustrations were unique and fresh, which alongside her photographic images, clearly defined her intentions for her final collection.
Using ethical and sustainable raw materials was a key concern and one that was strongly reinforced when talking to Suzanna at the Society's annual Antique Textile Fair in Manchester, where all finalists were invited to showcase their work.
Kate Probert-Jones from Leeds College of Art, Ruby Le Galle of the Royal School Needlework and Hannah Edmonds from Leeds College of Art all received runner prizes of £500.
